I put this tiny shim on the inside (the oscillation worm side) for smoothness and remove some free play in the spool. You don't need the shim, but i prefer it, and the vanford has a shim there too... so I provide it and you can install it or not. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNote that not all reel come with the same number of shims there, just like not all reels come with the same of shims under the spool.
